Hire Terms & Conditions
The Bowes Museum is open daily, closing only on 25 & 26 December and 1 January.
Public opening times are: Galleries & Exhibitions10.00 – 5.00, Café Bowes & Shop 10.00 – 4.30.
Extended out-of-hours opening can be discussed.
Booking & Confirmation
Bookings will be treated as provisional until written confirmation is sent by the Client (the organisation, company or individual named on the Booking Form) to The Bowes Museum.
A non-refundable deposit of £50.00 is required with confirmation, which will be deducted from the final invoice.
Booking of certain rooms and galleries requires a minimum charge, which forms the basis of the booking.
Delegate numbers must be finalised 5 working days prior to the start of the event. This number of delegates or alternatively the actual number attending, whichever is the greater, will then be used in the calculation of the invoice for admission/room hire and catering.
All events are required to commence and conclude as agreed at the time of booking. Extended use of the facilities may not be possible and may incur additional charges.
The Client must confirm cancellation of the event in writing.
Cancellation charges will apply to the total cost of the booked event:
7 days or less prior to start date: 100%
8 -14 days prior to start date: 50%
15+ days prior to start date: loss of deposit
The Client will be responsible for any loss or damage caused to the rooms, furnishings, equipment or other areas they are using at the Museum. The Bowes Museum holds Public Liability Insurance where the Museum is held to be liable. The Client undertakes to comply with all applicable Health & Safety rules and regulations, and be responsible for proper order and conduct within the Museum and grounds. The Bowes Museum shall not be held responsible for temporary closure of all or part of the premises, or cancellation of clients’ booking due to circumstances beyond its control.
Settlement of Account
An invoice will be sent to the Client following completion of the event, and the Client remains responsible for full settlement of the account within 28 days from the date of invoice.
