Face painting on family fun days

The young and the young-at-heart can explore The Bowes Museum through the provision of fun and educational games and activities which include toddler and family trails, family back-packs, dressing up areas, quizzes and worksheets, and interactive devices. These activities are led by our enthusiastic Education Team, recently recognised for their quality of education provision by their receipt of The Sandford Award from the Heritage Education Trust.

Family events take place throughout the year in the school holidays and include our ever-popular family fun days, storytelling sessions and art workshops. Please check the 'Whats's On' section of the website for forthcoming events.

Children on climbing frame

The beautiful park and gardens are an endless source of pleasure, providing the ideal environment for a relaxed picnic. The recent addition of a children's playground made from natural materials and buggie friendly woodland walks, make the grounds a great place for children to burn off energy. A nature trail and an orienteering trail complement our ‘Bag of Fun’ containing games and activities to do in the grounds. All are available from the Museum’s reception desk in the Entrance Hall.

The Museum has an 'After Schools Club' every Thursday. For more information please call 01833 690606.

The Museum also has a weekly toddler group 'Little Treasures' on a Wednesday morning and afternoon, term time only. There is an opportunity to explore the Museum, make a ‘crafty’ creation, and for parents and children to enjoy a song time. Each session costs £2 per child, with refreshments and materials provided. For more information please contact Amy on 01833 690606 ext 242.
