Christmas Market The Bowes Museum’s annual Christmas Market – a firm favourite in the region’s calendar – has been extended this year. It will be bigger and better than ever, with over 100 hand-picked stallholders offering original locally sourced Christmas produce, live music, seasonal entertainment, prize draws from Smooth Radio and the popular park & ride ‘Santa’ buses (Sat & Sun only) ensuring this feel-good family event is not to be missed.

Christmas Fair

A Traditional Fair in the Museum grounds, with delicious food chalets, fairground amusements, lantern trail and entertaining family activities. The Museum remains open during these hours with admission included in the Fair charge. 


Wild Adventures in the Woods

21 April, 10.30 – 12.00 or 1.30 – 3.00, £5.00 per child

Wild Adventures in the Woods

Learn outdoor survival skills in the museum grounds with Rachel Dawber. Make shelters, saw and split wood, learn how to light a fire with a flint and steel before whittling wood for marshmallow sticks. Then relax and enjoy hot chocolate and marshmallows around the camp fire. Suitable for age 7+ who must be accompanied by an adult for whom there is no charge for this event.

North East Morris Minor Club

North East Morris Minor Club

Members of the North East Morris Minor Club will display 30 classic cars on the Museum terrace. Come and relive the motoring era of days gone by, and ask the owners anything about their vehicles, during this free outdoor event.

Part of Cartas and Charters Family Fun Day

Join The Bowes Museum Education Team to learn about the recently acquired masterpiece St. Luke Drawing the Virgin and Child by Dieric Bouts. There will be craft activities, talks and videos to illuminate the story and techniques behind this important work.
