Heritage Open Days – Reading Room Tours

Visit the purpose-built Reference Library and Archives Reading Room at the top of the Museum’s central dome to see a display of documents and books from the collections while enjoying panoramic views. This year the display will include material from the Museum’s First World War Commemoration Project ‘To Serve King and Country’. These tours are free, but please note that normal charges apply for admission to the Museum Galleries. Booking preferred on 01833 690606 or at info@thebowesmuseum.org.uk as each tour is limited to a maximum of 10 people. 


Wanted 5 families to take part in our Discover Family Arts Award

1 September, 10.00 - 4.00

Take part in this inspiring all day adventure, exploring the arts with The Bowes Museum. 
You will:
·        Explore the museum to identify different art forms
·        Find out about our Victorian founders John and Joséphine Bowes.
·        Visit the Clockwork Garden
·        Take part in printmaking at The Bowes Museum and be inspired by the Turkish Tulip collection.

From archaeology to portraits, all art forms are explored via a range of exciting activities, providing participatory fun and creativity for the whole family. All materials are provided including aprons for the messy bit.

Adults and children alike will be involved as they work together to complete their challenges and earn a family certificate.


Cost: Free with normal admission (max. 2 adults and 3 children)

Spaces are limited to 5 families, so book early to avoid disappointment!

Breakfast with Santa Santa is taking time out from feeding his reindeer and keeping the elves in order to invite families to join him for a traditional breakfast in our enchanting Jubilee Room, where he'll create magical memories as he chats to you and hands out presents.
