Artist Trickery of the 15th Century

Learn to draw like St Luke in this free workshop. Have a go at silverpoint drawing before making your own oil paint to create a masterpiece inspired by St Luke Drawing the Virgin & Child. The work created will then be used as part of a Children’s Celebration event in August, marking the recent acquisition of this beautiful painting. Suitable for age 8+, but places are limited. Booking required.

Painting workshop - Unusual Historical Picture Making

Join artist Linda Birch to create a painting using an early form of `Automatism` developed from Leonardo de Vinci and promoted by the artist Alexander Cozens (1717 – 1786). This imaginative method of picture making uses black and white, and the result can form the basis for a colour picture.

Explore the role of the Red Cross and the work of volunteers to aid the recovery of the wounded and sick soldiers sent to the North of England, through this interactive and hands-on talk and display presented by Anne Wall and Eileen Brereton, former nurses themselves and co-authors of Home Comforts: The Role of Red Cross Auxiliary Hospitals in North Riding of Yorkshire 1914-1919.
