A series of FREE workshops for young people aged 11 - 18 years interested in developing their creativity.

  • Each month there is a chance to learn new skills and experiment with techniques, working across a range of creative media including drawing, printing, sculpture and textiles responding to the Museum’s collections and temporary exhibitions. All materials for the sessions are provided.
  • Sessions are planned and delivered by arts educator Polly Turner and are ideal to support art coursework.

15th October 2016 / Collections
Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm or 1.00pm - 3.00pm


During the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

·        Visit the temporary exhibition by artist Mark Clarke, Shelf Life: The Ornaments are talking to me

·        Learn/discover the many ways artists use collections in their artwork

·        Investigate creative ways of using a collection to create your own artwork using drawing, photography and installation.

 


 

12th November 2016 / Expressive Portraitrature 
Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm or 1.00pm - 3.00pm


During the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

·        Practice your drawings skills

·        Use a range of media to explore gestural and expressive mark making in your drawings

·        Be inspired by contemporary artists, whose work is characterised by expression, feeling and emotion in contrast to the more traditional and formal portraiture the Museum has in its collection.

 

 

 

10th December 2016 / Printmaking Processes
Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm (Mono printing) and/or 1.00pm - 3.00pm (Lino relief) 


During the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

·        Learn about and try a range of different printing techniques

·        Experiment with pattern and colour and create artwork to take away with you

·        Please note this workshop can be attended as a full day session and you would need to bring a packed lunch.

14th January 2017 / The Hidden Museum
Time: 10.00am – 12.00pm or 1.00pm - 3.00pm


During the workshop you will have the opportunity to:

·        Explore behind the scenes at The Bowes Museum and learn about how the Museum works

·        Be inspired by the Museums Decorative arts collections to learn more about its architecture and art history

·        Work with clay and plaster to make a 2d relief sculpture.
