The Unfolding Sky - Turner in the North

Fri 14 Jun 13

An innovative reinterpretation of the North East countryside originally captured on canvas by the great English landscape painter, J M W Turner.

A collaboration between choreographer Dora Frankel and composer Peter Coyte, the show is performed in the open air by three dancers, accompanied by Coyte’s original musical score, capturing all that is best and most exciting in the region’s landscape.

The choreography and dancing are described as ‘broad, sweeping, physically exhilarating and highly musical’, with the explosive arrival of the dancers in flamboyant costumes creating the sense of bringing Turner’s paintings alive in this unusual and unique celebration of the artist, and of the landscape that inspired him.

This family friendly event, supported by funding from the Heart of Teesdale Landscape Partnership, is free of charge and is suitable for all age groups. Refreshments will be available, although people are welcome to bring their own picnics and portable chairs if desired. Appropriate clothing should also be worn as the performance will only be cancelled if there is torrential rain!

The Unfolding Sky: Turner in the North is produced in partnership with Dance City and is part of the Festival of the North East 2013. It will tour to other venues in the region including Bamburgh Castle, Lindisfarne Priory, Tynemouth Priory, Warkworth Castle, Dance City and Bede’s World, but best to check beforehand whether there is a charge at your chosen venue.

No booking required.
