The workshops and demonstrations will take place in The Glass Cube – a specially created study centre in the Museum’s state-of-the art Fashion & Textile Gallery, when the knitwear display will be complemented with more items to study in the cube, alongside copies of vintage knitting patterns, during the twice weekly demonstrations.
The display is running from now until 2 May 2011, together with a full programme of associated demonstrations which are included in the admission price to the Museum. Workshops must be booked in advance and cost £8, £7 concessions or £5 for Friends of The Bowes Museum, which includes Museum admission. K3TOG: Knit Three Together
Sat 05 Mar 11 - Mon 02 May 11
Needles can be heard clicking away at The Bowes Museum this Spring as the Barnard Castle treasure house indulges in a ‘knit-fest.’
The Museum’s Keeper of Textiles, Joanna Hashagen, has been casting on to offer a display of vintage knitwear, demonstrations and workshops under the collective title K3TOG.
Meaning Knit Three Together, K3TOG brings these three strands together: the Museum’s knit collection + people + demonstrations and workshops to equal a focus on all things knitting.
There are all kinds of ways to get involved:
- Be inspired by the vintage knits on display to pick up your own needles and join the free weekly Knit and Natter sessions in the Café Bowes coffee lounge
- Learn to knit by coming to workshops or just ‘have a go’ at the twice weekly demonstrations
- Improve your knitting skills by taking part in advanced workshops
- Make a knitted bag
- Recycle old knitwear to create accessories
