This is a display in the Fashion & Textile Gallery, the full Vivienne Westwood: Rebel – Storyteller – Visionary closed on Saturday 6 September 2026.
Following the success of the recent landmark exhibition, this display explores Westwood’s extraordinary journey from the rebellious energy of punk in the 1980s to her later years as an outspoken activist.
Featuring pieces from rarely seen private and museum collections, Making Westwood offers a glimpse into Westwood’s artistry and early inspiration, one that defied convention and challenged the fashion world, paired with historic objects from The Bowes Museum’s collection.
