Ingrid’s blog

28 Jul 2020

I decided to participate in the Bouts Art Competition as I felt drawn to the portraiture through objects prompts. It closely aligned with art ideas I had already been thinking about. I try to create art that makes myself and others happy. For me, making art feels like the most natural form of self-expression and I find it fascinating to use it as a tool for self-reflection. I just graduated from University with a Bachelor’s degree in studio art, so looking towards the future I hope to be able to pursue a creative career. Above all else, however, I think art will always be a significant part of my life. There are many artists that I look up to, and I feel that the more art I see, the more artists I am inspired by. Most recently, I have been inspired by Michael Armitage and Luc Tuymans. While they aren’t incredibly similar, I recently had the pleasure of seeing their works in person and it definitely influenced how I think about applying paint to canvas.
