My name is Betty Barnet Brown and I am an artist based in Durham. I trained in Fine Art at Chelsea and Camberwell back in the day, and at the core of my creative impulse is the use of colour as a response to the visual world.
I am a painter at heart but have been working with textiles for several years. I also love process and inventing things, so my workshop offer at The Bowes Museum has expanded from drawing and collage projects to include paper automata which I draw and design myself, often inspired by items within the collections.
I am drawn to images that have a sense of narrative and this influences my own work and the workshops I design. Story-telling has such universal appeal, across all cultures, backgrounds and age-groups; and The Bowes Museum is just full of beautiful objects that tell or inspire stories. What a great place to work.
