I was originally born in Darlington and at age 9 I moved to the South of England with my parents. After many happy years, in 2024 I made the decision to return to this area and start a new chapter of my life.
As a child I often visited the museum with both my parents and godparents, it was my first introduction to the world of art and started a lifetime of interest and appreciation.
With my recent house move complete, I contacted the museum to see if I could contribute as a volunteer. After an initial interview I was delighted to be accepted, and it is a privilege to represent the organisation.
Whilst I would like to volunteer on a more regular basis, at the moment I am still working full time and my current commitment to the museum involves helping with events. I was recently lucky enough to welcome guests to the Nerina Pallot concert as part of the Concert Series, what a wonderful evening! Guests were delighted to see such a talented artist in a small, up close and personal space, and to visit the galleries before the concert and during the interval.
My career history includes the management of private members clubs, events and wedding planning. To be able to use this experience and give my skills and time without a cost, will allow money to be spent on valuable projects and contribute to the museum’s continuing future.
I hope this is the start of a long connection with the museum as a volunteer and that as I approach retirement, I can devote more time as a volunteer on a regular basis.
Volunteering is proving to be such a valuable experience in so many ways and the warm welcome, training and support I have received from so many members of the team has been incredible and most appreciated.
