Robin Mclaughlin
My final pieces are inspired by a variety of objects linked to the Rococo period within the Museum. A contemporary colour palette with exploration of scale and layering has been used, taking the imagery in a new direction.

Eve Quincey
My concept is based upon The Bowes Museum’s extensive art collection, Baroque mirrors, golden frames and wood panelling decorating the walls. I was inspired by their 2022 Journey in Colour exhibition and my work focuses on bright clashing colours, composition and expressive mark making using traditional and digital techniques to produce my final outcomes.

Exploring the notion of curation and display these works involve the process of interpreting, assembling and composing found objects and ephemera in a considered way.
The distinctive personality of the collages is an antidote to mass produced products that
are all too often homogenised and impersonal.
The collages have a contemporary yet timeless aesthetic that will compliment both modern and traditional interiors.

Rachel Creevy
My inspiration came initially from observing tiny details within the collection which then developed into a concept based around the title “Fantastical Beasts”.
I have produced a three-dimensional upcycled house which contains tiny animals and features my digital wallpaper, as well as a scarf with giant fish, and a colour-separated printed length as final outcomes.

Jennifer Oakley
Twisting The Bowes Museum’s
classical collection into the Punk
subculture with the aim of creating a
young alternative space in the gallery. Specializing in photography, drawing,
digital development, and collage, my
work distorts and modernises The
Bowes’ famous imagery into dark
colours and urban grunge. My project culminates in an A2 furnishing design,
an 80cm x 30cm embroidered fashion
scarf, a macabre clay sculpture and a
three meter long screen-printed cotton length.

Mads Sutherland
In my work, I aimed to merge my vibrant and modern experiments with illuminated discharge and foiling with the decorative mid- nineteenth century objects at The Bowes Museum to create a strange hybrid that modernised the contents of the Museum but didn’t decimate the beautiful aspects of it.
Chloe McKenna
I focused on the Baroque aspect found in the work of the Museum in places such as the gold frames on the paintings. My work has been created around Joséphine’s pink dress as I found that to be one of my favourite aspects of the Museum.
Tabitha May
Many of the artefacts in The Bowes Museum inspired my project including the floral paintings and the logo on the entrance door arch. I wanted to depict the previous artists’ work at Bowes in my work in print form and with multiple objects in a new composition. My final outcomes include a hand- painted plate and a hand-painted and screen-printed three metre length.
Robyn Hart
For my final piece I have created a three metre length and plate. My concept was inspired by the Rococo style antiques and furnishings. The focus of my final piece was the inevitability of time and this was shown through prints and drawings by of pots with flowers growing through the cracks.
Scarlett Tyler
I was inspired by the Baroque frames and decorative aspects of the ceramics which led me to create digital collages that I used to develop and create my three metre hand printed length and two plates.

Grace Cooper
My concept is based around the floral designs presented on the decorative plates in the Museum. I have used designs and colours inspired by the exhibitions throughout the Museum to create fitting but unique pieces including a three-metre length of silk and a handprinted decorative plate.
Emily Alderson
Taking inspiration from various floral patterns and motifs found on dresses and plates in The Bowes Museum, I created pieces that explored taking a simple and classic design and making it feel new and contemporary. I did this by using modern techniques and vibrant, bold colours.

A lot of my project was inspired by the Silver Swan automata mixed with other artefacts found at The Bowes Museum, including the symmetrical table tops as well as ceramics. I enjoy the symmetry and I linked it to my love of mandalas. The main focus for my three metre length was antique blue and white china.

Laura McIlveen
My work takes inspiration from the ceramics and the architecture of the Museum. I experimented with scale and colour and used both traditional and digital techniques to produce a range of contemporary outcomes. I wanted to explore the ideas of embracing imperfections within artefacts as I think this is often overlooked within museums.
Laura Wigham
My final outcomes were inspired by the artwork depicting Paradise Lost on the Sèvres Porcelain Table. I was influenced by the layers of nature in the painting, with an eclectic mix of plants and animals, and I illustrated these with a contemporary aesthetic, bold shapes, and an organic, vibrant colour palette.

Becca Delenn
My work is completely inspired by the stained-glass windows featured in The Bowes Museum. I was enthralled with the idea of movement in the glass and the different looks/textures created with just the one material. But I was also influenced by the contrast and communication between the colours featured within the original window.

Katie Hammond
My concept is based upon the replica food displayed in the Museum. I manipulated colour and form to generate vivid and surreal designs.
I have produced a digitally designed scarf with a hand rolled edge & embellishment; a three metre hand- printed, colour-separated length of fabric; and a frame for a convex mirror made from recycled wood.

Charlotte Tupling
My artwork is based upon the Pair of Cats, c.1900; Robots; the white geometric Op-Art Dress and figure of a Rhinoceros from The Bowes Museum. Using hand and digital techniques, I have created contemporary outcomes, bringing a modern twist to the collections. I love creating bold, colourful and stylised pieces so have made sure my work portrays this style.

Ada Malegowska
My concept combines architecture and the surrounding landscape of The Bowes Museum with stylised shapes and vibrant colours.
My product line features sublimation printed scarves, a colour-separated length reminiscent of my furnishing design and a casted bust.
I’m a surface designer with a focus on geometric patterns and digital design.
Chloe White
My concept is based upon the Rococo art period. I had taken inspiration from the artefacts within the Museum including the decorative clock. I focused my outcomes upon the colour schemes of the Rococo period, influenced by paintings of the time and decorative golden Baroque. Hand -detailing will be influential progressing forward.

After our visit to The Bowes Museum to take photographs of the building and artefacts within the Museum I designed a three metre length of fabric and decorated a plate. I constructed linen fabric panels with a range of image transfers of photos taken and my own drawings of the photos. I also covered the plate with an image transfer on linen.
Elissa Kinnersley
Throughout this module I have based my work on the florals and nature shown within The Bowes Museum. Using my own style of digital drawing and hand embroidery I have created several outcomes linking to The Bowes Museum following a contemporary style through colour, imagery and contemporary feeling.
Jessica Shaw
My concept is based upon The Bowes Museum grounds, focusing on the way nature is overtaking. The lost botany collection of Mary Eleanor Bowes and portraits within The Bowes Museum collection are depicted on my scarf design.
Ellana Hancock
My concept was inspired by various artefacts within the collection, linked with the idea of ‘eco- brutalism,’ specifically in the use of sustainable and unconventional materials, and experiments with a range of processes. My outcomes are a furnishing design and printed length, ceramic pieces, and a digitally printed and embroidered scarf.
Stacie Guest
While creating designs in relation to The Bowes Museum I took inspiration from several collections that were displayed during my visit.. However, it was mainly the ceramics which were influential in the theme of my project depicting the natural world. Allowing development of imagery in my various outcomes.

The idea of the ‘materiality’ of the things around us absorbing memories, dreams, life and places was the initial inspiration of my work. This provides me with the landscape to weave in my narrative and explore a deeper experience of place, belonging and stories using combinations of digital media and drawing. Like Josephine, my travels in Europe have provided me with inspiration particularly graffiti and street art from Venice, Paris and Barcelona.
Megan Stoddart
For my outcomes, I’ve been inspired by The Bowes Museum exterior, grounds and varied artwork from the Museum. I have used a traditional outlook when creating my artwork, working with a combination of hand and digital textile techniques, to create a contrasting bright and muted colour scheme.
Daisy Mulcahy
My concept is based upon the Canaletto paintings located within the gallery and the Rococo mirrors in the upstairs bedroom of Joséphine. With the use of digital techniques and my own drawings, I took a contemporary approach to my designs to produce my final outcomes.
