Join us as we make big art with our littlest visitors. This workshop is designed to encourage mark making, experimentation with colours and using lots of different materials. Your little artists will get a closer look at the artwork in our galleries and see that museums are a fun place for play, experimentation and creativity. Your pupils will explore everything from patterns on porcelain to florals on fabrics, using everything they have seen as inspiration to make some brilliant artwork.
They will also play games that will get them identifying shapes, colours and patterns, rounding everything off with story time.

Enjoy a slower pace with us as we gently explore our arty spaces. Your pupils will start with mindful moments in the art gallery, where they can lie down or move around, and focus on the big spaces surrounding us.
This session is designed to allow your pupils time to take in everything they see. They will have space in the galleries to feel different textures, listen to stories, enjoy classical music and have fun in the space. They will have areas that they can independently explore, whilst introducing them to colour, patterns and shapes. This session is designed with everyone in-mind.

On this guided tour of the Bowes Museum, your pupils will find out all about the different types of artwork and objects that Joséphine and John Bowes collected from around the world. Your class will complete a series of creative activities as they work their way around our fascinating galleries to discover more about the lives of our own Victorian art collectors.

A Victorian vacation for young art collectors! This trip puts your pupils in the shoes of Joséphine and John Bowes as they built their Museum collection. Through hands on activities, they'll learn about how the Bowes travelled and collected their way around Europe. Using team working skills and creativity, they'll build the Museum's collection up in the style of Joséphine and John.

Explore the Ancient World! Whether you're studying the Greeks or the Romans, we'll be following in the footsteps of Joséphine and John Bowes as we dive into our collection to learn all about the culture, art and architecture of an ancient civilization. After exploring ancient myths that can be found in the galleries, your pupils will head to the Create Space to combine their historical knowledge with creativity for a group project on ancient art.

Joséphine and John Bowes' collection spans an incredible range of art styles, object types and time periods, bringing together art and history from all over the world. This allows your class to travel through time, learning about a huge range of topics and places using the Museum collection - our object zoo!
This visit enables your pupils to think critically about the many different things they can find in the Museum and encourages them to respond creatively in different ways to the art and history they have experienced.
