Gelli Plate Printing

Inspired by the paintings of trees in the conversation space and the trees in the parkland surrounding The Bowes Museum lets talk about how we can enjoy, care for and look after nature. This session will be an opportunity to learn the technique of Gelli Plate Printing. We will use the gelli plate and acrylic paints to print our own paper leaves, which, once dry can be cut and used to create a collaged tree. The trunk of the tree will be created using recyled cardboard, with found tree bark being used to create printed texture.
With reference to the work of Anne Von Freyburg, Sun Kissed (After Fragonard, Venus with Doves) exhibited in “From Josephine” we will give thought to the decorative arts. Come and learn how to create prints and patterns using a Gelli Plate. Using a variety of mark making tools we will draw into acrylic paint on the plate before using a variety of papers to print onto. The printed papers once dry can then be used to create decorative collage work on paper or on recyled glass jars.
