Heritage Open Days

Special Events
13 & 14 Sep 2025
10:00 - 5:00, free entry

Enjoy a fantastic free day out with family and friends at The Bowes Museum as we celebrate England’s largest festival of history and culture, Heritage Open Days. This year’s theme is Architecture, making the impressive French-style château nestled in the heart of Teesdale, County Durham the perfect place to celebrate it.

There’s a lively programme of creative and cultural activities for all ages taking place over the weekend, from artist-led workshops to themed tours offering rare behind-the-scenes access. There’ll be plenty to see and do both inside the museum and throughout the grounds. Be sure to catch the exhibitions, Pippa Hale: Pet Project and Joséphine: A Woman of Taste and Fashion, and discover striking new outdoor installations by Turner Prize-nominated artist Nathan Coley, and a special commission by Claire A Baker, one of Tees Valley’s 2024 Artists of the Year.
