Joséphine and John Bowes acquired a variety of textiles throughout their lifetimes, largely influenced by Joséphine’s interest in this area, and fuelled by the furnishing of their residences in France. This talk will examine the variety and breadth of textile items in the collection, featuring woven and embroidered chair covers, embroideries, lace, ecclesiastical textiles, and items purchased at the Paris Exposition Universelle of 1867.
Many of the items featured are displayed in Joséphine: A Woman of Taste and Fashion, now open.
Booking essential, however, spaces may be available on the day. Ask at Reception for details.
