With few surviving items of clothing belonging to Joséphine Bowes, the museum has built on her legacy since the mid-20th century with new acquisitions of French fashion. This talk by Rachel Whitworth, Curator of Fashion & Textiles explores some of the treasures in the collection, from clothes and accessories worn by the Empress Eugénie of France, to dresses by iconic French designers Jeanne Paquin, Jacques Fath and Yves Saint Laurent.
Many of the items featured will be displayed in Joséphine: A Woman of Taste and Fashion, opening 22 March 2025.
