Join Rachel Whitworth, Curator of Fashion & Textiles to learn about Joséphine Bowes’ interest in fashion, both historic and contemporary, through fashion plates, magazines and her surviving clothes. This talk will examine her patronage of Charles Frederick Worth’s (1825-1895) couture house through bills found in The Bowes Museum’s archive and set Joséphine in the context of fashionable society in the mid 19thcentury.
Many of the items featured are displayed in Joséphine: A Woman of Taste and Fashion, now open.
